About Notch & Me

 

I am Susan Barry and Notch Handmade is my tiny, one- woman, artisan leatherwork business. 

I’m a self- taught maker and love to indulge my passion for design and handcrafting whilst dodging the housework & hiding out in my garden workshop.

Based in Tregaron in beautiful, rural mid Wales, I’ve been working with leather for just short of a decade, turning my enthusiasm for making into usable skill.

Notch Handmade is the product of that practice and I now work almost exclusively with a soft, thick, Italian vegetable tanned leather which I then colour by hand with water- based stain. Using a combination of machine and hand stitching, every piece is then put together by hand at my workbench.

My aim is to create contemporary, hand- dyed and handmade bags, accessories and custom pieces in beautiful, real leather using simple and mindful leather-work practices, bringing unique, bespoke pieces to the marketplace.
